HPD OFFICER
KILLS 3 IN 7 YEARS
LATEST SECURITY GUARD ON TRAFFIC TICKET
HOLMES DOUBTS COULD BE CONVICTED
(of course not with a protective District Attorney)
Grand Jury refused to indict.
"That's the extent of it," said grand jury foreman Eddie Corral, who is the Houston fire marshal. "I doubt if it'll go farther."
Former Houston Police Chief Lee P. Brown fired Tschirhart for what he called an unjustified shooting .
Holmes wouldn't comment on the latest grand jury interest in the shooting of Gillum. Holmes has said repeatedly that he doubts Tschirhart could be convicted of wrongdoing in the Nov. 15 shooting .
Gillum, 24, died after being shot eight times by 10mm bullets after his car was stopped near the University of Houston campus by Tschirhart, 27, for a traffic violation.
After ordering the security guard to get out of his car and away from a revolver in the vehicle's front seat, Tschirhart shot Gillum four times inside the car.
Fatally wounded, Gillum leaped out his right front window and then was struck in the back by another four-shot volley fired by Tschirhart.
Tschirhart said the revolver wasn't in the seat when he first talked to Gillum but was there when he returned to get the guard to sign a ticket form.
After killing his third black man in seven years as a policeman, Tschirhart gave a three-page statement about Gillum's death and testified exhaustively before grand juries in April and July.
